Pat Caetano is FREE!

Free Battered Women is happy to report that on March 16, 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger approved parole for Pat Caetano, a survivor of domestic violence who has been in prison since 1986 for killing a stranger during a robbery along with a co-defendant.

Although her co-defendant initiated the crime and played a more active role, Pat served 18 years of a 15-years-to-life sentence while her her co-defendant served only six years in prison. Even the Monterey County District Attorney who prosecuted her case supported Pat's release.

This was the second time that Pat had been granted parole by the Board of Prison Terms. Former Governor Davis reversed the Board's decision to grant Pat parole in 2003.
